(often simply called refractory brick) is a highly specialized material engineered to withstand extreme temperatures while maintaining its structural integrity. Unlike standard red clay facing bricks, firebricks are all about thermal performance.
| Feature | Red Firebrick | Standard Red Building Brick |
|---|---|---|
| Heat Resistance | Up to 1200°C - 1400°C (2200°F – 2500°F ). | Will crack or explode at high temperatures due to trapped moisture. |
| Weight & Density | Very heavy, dense, and compact. | Lighter, more porous. |
| Texture | Smooth, uniform, with sharp, precise edges for tight joints. | Can be rough, sandy, or irregular. |
| Mortar Used | Must be laid with refractory mortar (fireclay). | Laid with standard cement/lime mortar. |
